Australian singer/songwriter Laura Imbruglia embodies a true D.I.Y. spirit with her brand of indie pop, from her self-released debut, 2003's It Makes a Crunchy Noise through to 2019's Scared of You.
Born and raised in Sydney, Imbruglia was one of four girls, with her older sister, Natalie, being thrust into the spotlight after embarking on a career in acting and eventually singing. Not one to ride her sister's coattails, Laura embarked on her own journey, playing acoustic guitar and writing her own songs. A regular of the local Sydney scene, Imbruglia quickly built up a loyal following for her own brand of country-infused indie pop. 2003 saw her self-release her debut EP, It Makes a Crunchy Noise, followed two years later by the single "My Dream of a Magical Washing Machine." The following year she delivered her eponymous debut album for Chatterbox Records, and tour dates with the likes of Eels, Tegan and Sara, and Tenacious D, saw her playing to ever larger audiences. Her sophomore album, The Lighter Side Of… appeared in 2010 on her own label, Ready Freddie, before she upped sticks and moved to Melbourne. Her third album came three years later in 2013 with the release of What a Treat, before Imbruglia took a backseat from recording and touring.
After a break from music for nearly five years, during which she curated her own arts, comedy, and culture show Amateur Hour, Imbruglia returned to the studio to record new material. Produced by Nick Huggins, the resulting album, Scared of You, was issued at the beginning of 2019, preceded by the singles "Tricks" and "Diptych." ~ Rich Wilson~ Rovi
