International synth pop trio Operators was formed in 2013 by members of the likewise post-punk-inspired indie rockers Wolf Parade and Divine Fits. Putting more of an emphasis on club-ready synth textures, their full-length debut, Blue Wave, saw release in 2016.
Operators consists of frontman Dan Boeckner (Wolf Parade, Handsome Furs), drummer and Divine Fits bandmate Sam Brown, and multi-instrumentalist Devojka. After some well-received live shows in Canada, the group signed with Last Gang Records, which issued EP, Vol. 1 in mid-2014 as Operators headed out on tour in support of Future Islands. A tour of Canada and the Eastern U.S. with New Pornographers followed in early 2015. Their first album, Blue Wave, arrived in 2016.
While preparing the follow-up, Operators performed a series of shows that included Handsome Furs material, Wolf Parade released and promoted their album Cry Cry Cry (2017), and the film Mandy (2018) hit theaters with an original song by Boeckner. Recorded in Montreal and Vancouver Island with producer Napster Vertigo, the completed Radiant Dawn followed on Last Gang Records in 2019. It included a guest spot by Arcade Fire bassist Tim Kingsbury. The band supported the album with tours of North American and Europe, including festival stops in Berlin and Devojka's native Macedonia. ~ Marcy Donelson~ Rovi
