Biography

Country Of origin: Italy

Platti was an Italian composer who served the majority of his working life for the Wurzburg episcopate in Germany. Platti was an accomplished instrumentalist who excelled at the harpsichord, violin, flute, oboe, and cello. Though he composed an opera and other vocal works his approximately one hundred and twenty instrumental works including sonatas and concertos for the harpsichord, violin, cello, flute and cello are most important. If his instrumental works were to be arranged sequentially a demonstrated transition between the Baroque and the galant styles would easily be discerned. Platti's compositions reflect the influence of his stay in Germany and his critics in Italy would be more than happy to point this out. Musically Platti's rhythms were lively and his harmonies demonstrate a clear understanding of polyphonic composition. ~ Keith Johnson~ Rovi
