Ranchera singer Erasmo Catarino Gonzalez Delgado was born in Xalpaltlahuac, Guerrero, Mexico, on November 25, 1977. Born to Nahuatl parents, and in a region where the native Mexican culture and language are still prevalent, from an early age Erasmo strongly identified with his heritage. He earned a degree in primary education in Puebla, Mexico, and returned to his town of origin to teach second grade in a school for Nahuatl children. Always a proficient singer, Erasmo was prompted to friends and family to enter La Academia 4, a Mexican television show where participants compete for record industry opportunities. Though adept at many styles, Erasmo's heart had always been with more traditional Mexican styles (ranchera, banda, etc.). He stood out in the program not only for his stylistic choices, but also for vocal ability and charisma. As the winner of the popular show, Erasmo released El Conde de Xalpatlahuac, which has since gone platinum. La Academia 4 was only the beginning of Erasmo's competitive television career, as he has since participated in Desafio de Estrellas, a similar program in which he won second place. His second record, Toda Banda, was released in 2006. Fidelity to traditional musical styles and a strong identification with his roots has won Erasmo a loyal fan base. ~ Evan C. Gutierrez~ Rovi
