Review

The clean-cut 1950s and '60s pop singer Pat Boone made his name covering '50s R&B hits by artists like Fats Domino and Little Richard, so this collection of his versions of '60s and '70s R&B hits isn't as unusual as it may first appear (and certainly not as strange as his late-'90s flirtation with heavy metal). Though few would associate Boone's name with the word "funk," his takes on KC & The Sunshine Band's "Get Down Tonight" and Kool & The Gang's "Celebration" accentuate the originals' pop aspects in much the same way as did his recordings of Domino's "Ain't That a Shame" and Richard's "Tutti Frutti."
