Review

Casanova features the Greek band Xaxakes, who plays glamorously dreary rock with lots of electronica flourishes -- the latter usually either rhythmic or ambient in nature. It's quite an ornamental sound. Even when the songs hit lulls, when the vocals drop out of the mix, the electronica flourishes maintain a strong sense of mood, most often being a dark mood. It's tempting to draw comparisons to a similar band like Depeche Mode, who similarly synthesize rock and electronica, subordinating the electronic sounds to secondary status. ~ Jason Birchmeier
